Local notes
What changes from one yard to the next
Most projects around Châteauguay are familiar ones: closing in a backyard for the dog or the kids, securing an above-ground pool, or replacing a chain-link fence that has leaned after a few winters.
Frost is the big variable. On the clay soils near Lac Saint-Louis, a post that isn’t anchored deep enough heaves in spring. Ask each provider how they set posts (concrete, depth) and compare on that, not just on price.
Height limits and permits are set by each municipality and differ between front and back yards, so check with your town’s planning department before signing. A pool enclosure always needs a municipal permit.
Price benchmarks
What does a fence cost? Benchmarks, not a quote
Published 2026 guides give a ballpark. According to Soumissions Clôture, black chain-link with privacy slats and posts set in concrete averages about $75 per linear foot at 4 ft, $79 at 5 ft and $83 at 6 ft, installed. The same site lists wood from about $27 per linear foot, aluminum from $35 to $150 and vinyl around $55.
These are not our prices; we don’t install fences. Length, corners, gates, soil and access all change the number, and only a provider’s quote gives you a real figure.

Pools
Pool installed before 2010? The deadline is September 30, 2027
Québec’s residential pool safety regulation now applies to older pools too. Pools installed before November 1, 2010 must comply by September 30, 2027: an enclosure at least 1.2 m high, nothing to climb, no gap a 10 cm ball can pass through, and a gate that closes and latches by itself. A hedge doesn’t count as an enclosure.

Your request
How it works
- Step 1Describe the yard. Rough length in linear feet, height, number of gates and a photo if you can.
- Step 2We review it. A real person checks the request is complete and emails you if a key detail is missing.
- Step 3Providers reply. With your consent, up to two independent providers receive it and contact you to measure or send a price.
Transparency
Who actually does the work?
Châteauguay Connect is a referral platform. We don’t do the work, we don’t employ crews and we don’t sell materials.
When you fill in the form and tick the consent box, we pass your request to up to two independent local providers. Each one sends you their own quote, on their own terms. If you accept one, the contract is between you and that provider: they are responsible for the work, any permits they need, their licences and their insurance.
The service is free for you. Providers who receive requests may pay us; that changes nothing about your price or your freedom to turn every quote down.
Where things stand. We are building our network of independent providers in the area. We cannot guarantee that a provider will be available for every request; if none is, we will tell you by email.
FAQ
Common questions
Do I need a permit for a fence?
It depends on your municipality, where the fence goes and its height. Call the planning department of Châteauguay, Mercier or your town before signing. A pool enclosure always needs a municipal permit.
How high must a pool fence be?
At least 1.2 m (about 4 ft) everywhere, with nothing that helps a child climb and no opening a 10 cm ball can pass through. The gate must close and latch automatically.
Can I write my request in English?
Yes. Write it in English or French; we pass it on as written. Whether a given provider works in English is up to them.
Does Châteauguay Connect install fences?
No. We pass your request, with your consent, to independent providers who quote you directly. The provider you choose does the work and is responsible for it.
